Need Gum Gone? Chewing gum removal is a sticky business, whether it’s on your concrete, parking lot or on the side of a building, gum eventually changes into a black smudge on your concrete. But usually before that point, pedestrians and clientele coming into a store or office will walk on the gum and track it in all over your carpets and mats. Then it’s forced deep into the carpet fibers and into the porous surface of concrete or asphalt, just waiting for someone to step in it again, to carry it somewhere else.
We are proud to offer gum removal as one of our commercial pressure washing services in Chesapeake VA. Find information on our process below:
The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.
The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Then we move the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.
The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.
When we remove gum that is already black, or is already smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we don’t use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!
Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete. These types of surfaces can be destroyed much easier than people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
To completely remove gum from parking lots and other surfaces we use specially designed hot water pressure washing equipment and special soaps that allow us to clean the concrete without resulting in any damages.
Using special 200 degree hot water power washers and low pressure, we can safely remove gum and surface dirt all while protecting the surface. Our method will also eliminate bacteria and viruses that can be found in gum.
